Jaw Tip Aesthetics

The tip of the chin is located in the lowest part of our face, the point of transition from the face to the neck area. The more important the nose is in determining the facial profile, the larger or smaller the chin tip is for the profile. The tip of the chin is a complement to the facial profile. The fact that the tip of the jaw is large or small causes a profile structure that disrupts the aesthetic appearanceLike all facial bones, the jaw bone completes its development around the age of 18. For this reason, jaw tip aesthetic surgeries should be performed after the age of 18.

If there is no biting defect in the person who wants to have jaw tip aesthetics, that is, if there is no problem in the relationship of the lower and upper teeth with each other, then orthodontic treatment (wire treatment) is not required before the jaw tip aesthetics.

If the tip of the jaw is larger than the nomal, the aesthetic facial appearance is distorted and a rough and long face is revealed, and with a surgery, the tip of the jaw can be reduced in accordance with the aesthetic bases. This intervention; it may be in the form of removing excess bone or shifting the tip of the jaw backwards (if the bite is normal). The tip of the jaw that is shifted back must be fixed in its new position with the help of plaque or screws.

A more common deformity is that the tip of the jaw is smaller than normal. If there is an arched and large nose at the same time, the deformity becomes even more severe and the person’s face may take a look similar to the bird face. In such a case, since the support of the tissues under the chin will also decrease, the sagging of the soft tissues under the tip of the chin will be seen more quickly and the person will also have a ‘tickle’ deformity. Enlargement of the small jaw; It is performed by cutting the jaw tip bone and advancing it forward or by placing various impllans (silicone, medpor, titanium) at the tip of the jaw. Enlarging the tip of the jaw can also solve the problem of the person’s tickle.

Jaw tip aesthetic surgeries are generally called Genioplasty surgeries. Since the incision is made through the mouth, there is no scar on the face. Since the surgical sutures are self-dissolving stitches, there is no need to remove stitches. Jaw tip aesthetics (genioplasty) surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 1 hour under normal conditions. The patient is discharged home after staying in the hospital for a day.

The pain is usually minimal and is well tolerated by using painkillers. Swelling in the mouth and jaw heals in an average of 1 week. It is enough to feed with liquid foods for about 6-7 days until the incisions in the mouth heal. In people with jaw tip aesthetics (genioplasty), there is no need to connect the upper and lower teeth to each other, even if it is temporary after surgery.
