Breasts are an indispensable element of female beauty. Although large breasts seem attractive at a very young age, they soon lose their shape and sag with the effect of gravity. Weight gain and pregnancy cause the breasts to grow and sag even more. Large breasts can make women feel overweight and older than they are. It can create feelings of embarrassment in young girls, especially during adolescence. Young girls with large breasts begin to hunch over them to hide them, wear loose dresses, avoid tight clothes and sports activities.
Large breasts lead to neck, back and shoulder pain, over time causing permanent disorders in the spine. Bra straps deform the shoulders after a while. Since the underside of the breasts is constantly sweaty and stuffy, it becomes irritated over time, skin problems appear. Women with large breasts have to live with shoulder, neck and back pain problems. The aim of breast reduction surgeries is to reduce the breasts proportionally to the body. While performing this procedure, the breast is also lifted and a conical shape is given.
In breast reduction surgeries, 3 basic procedures are performed: moving the nipple upwards, shrinking the breast to give it a conical shape and cutting off the excess skin.
All patients with large breasts are suitable candidates for breast reduction surgeries. Some of them are young patients with large breasts, and some of them are middle-aged patients whose breasts have grown and sagged after births and weight gain. Patients who have gained weight after menopause and whose breasts have grown form another group. In young girls, the breasts are expected to take their final shape before performing the reduction procedure.
If the breast continues to grow, it is useful to wait. However, in young girls called “Virginal Hypertrophy”, in which the breasts grow uncontrollably, it can be intervened earlier. As a general rule, patients who do not exceed the age of 18 are not operated. Apart from this, breast reduction procedures can be performed on any patient unless there is a special health problem.
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia and in the operating room environment. Before breast reduction surgery, each patient should have mammography/breast USG. The radiological image obtained before the procedure on the breast is very important for subsequent follow-ups. When 1 year has passed since the operation, mammography/breast USG is repeated.
The duration of the operation is between 2-3 hours. As the breasts grow, the duration also increases.
Breast reduction surgeries are one of the operations with the least pain among aesthetic surgeries. There are mild pains in the first few days and can be controlled with simple painkillers.
You can eat 3 hours after the end of the operation and stand up. In breast surgeries, 1 day hospitalization is requested. There is a small dressing at the patient’s incision site. After two days she can take a bath. He comes in for a check-up after three days and then can go back to work, start his normal daily activities, drive a car. For the first 3 weeks, he should not do sports except walking.
Again, it is mandatory to wear the sports bra day and night for the first 3 weeks. After the third week, he can do all sports activities except arm and chest movements. After the sixth week, all kinds of sports activities are allowed.
After breast reduction surgery, which will liberate you, save you from neck and back pain, and make you look thinner and younger, you can return to work life after a few days of rest.
In the studies, the breastfeeding rates of women who underwent breast reduction and women who had large breasts and who did not undergo reduction surgery were compared and the rates were similar in most of them. It can be said that the breastfeeding rates of patients who underwent reduction surgery were the same as normal women.
There may be temporary loss of sensation after breast reduction surgeries. There may also be permanent loss of sensation in very large and sagging breasts, but this is very rare. A few months after the operation, the nipples regain their former sensitivity. In addition, many women who have undergone breast reduction surgery state that their nipples are more sensitive than before.
In breast reduction surgeries, 3 basic procedures are performed: the nipple is moved up, excess breast tissue is removed and shaped, and finally the excess skin tissue is removed and discarded. The length of the scar to remain varies depending on the size of the breast, its laxity and the elasticity of the patient’s skin. All of the marks fade over time and become barely noticeable.
Breast reduction surgeries reduce the risk of cancer because they reduce breast mass. In various studies, it is reported that breast reduction surgery reduces the risk of cancer by ‘-70’. All of the parts removed during the reduction process are sent for pathological examination. This creates very important follow-up information for patients going forward. In addition, cancer cases can be caught by chance in this way. In this case, the lives of the patients are saved.
